Let’s Talk Fragrance: Why I Only Use Essential Oils in Baa-tanicals Products

Scent is such a big part of what makes handmade soap feel like a little luxury—but what’s in that scent matters deeply to me.

As I’ve done more research over the years, I’ve learned just how many undisclosed chemicals can hide behind the word “fragrance.” That single word can represent dozens (or even hundreds!) of synthetic compounds, and companies aren’t required to list them. That doesn’t align with the toxin-free, health-conscious values I hold for Baa-tanicals—or for my own home and family.

That’s why I’ve chosen to use only pure, natural essential oils in my products.

These oils aren’t just fragrant—they carry skin-loving and aromatherapeutic benefits. I blend them intentionally for both scent and purpose, and I always follow IFRA safety guidelines to ensure each one is used at a skin-safe level.

I also think it’s important to clear up a common misconception: just because something is labeled as an “essential oil” doesn’t mean it actually is. I’ve seen products claiming to use oils, but simply don’t exist in nature. That’s why I’m careful to source only genuine, high-quality essential oils from trusted suppliers.

When you pick up a bar of Baa-tanicals soap, you can feel confident knowing you’re choosing a product that’s thoughtfully crafted for your skin, your senses, and your health.
